WHAT GERMS ARE LURKING IN YOUR COOLER? |

The International Bottled Water Association of America recommends that coolers be sanitized at least every 6 months. European health regulations require bottled water companies to sanitize coolers every 3 months.
The European Bottled water Association (EBWA) define sanitation as "the process of cleaning followed by disinfection" and should cover: - Cooler exterior, Drip Tray, Non - spill system, Internal reservoir baffle, Reservoir and Pipe work and Taps.
EBWA suggest a number of reasons why bottled water coolers need to be sanitized every three months.
• Water contact surfaces will build up a layer of bio film.
• Slime and taste problems may otherwise occur.
• To remove scale from the reservoir and hot tank.
• To eliminate contamination of the cooler by Pseudomonas, Aeruginosa
and Coliforms which may be picked up from the customer and
environment?
• To eliminate algae picked up from green bottles.
Certain states in America are passing this as a law on the books for bottled water companies.
It is a fact that the majority of coolers are seldom or ever cleansed and sanitized. This raises the question

Most of the water coolers available if cleaned, a sanitasion would be carried out, invariably off site inconveniencing the client and users whilst being serviced, usually flushing through chemicals which invariably sanitizes the cooler temporarily as in many cases there is often a residue of “bio film” not exactly ensuring the process is a 100 percent successful.
